Faith and Trust

The following quote spoke to me the other day. It's from the movie, "American Beauty." Lately, there has been so much uncertainty in my life, that I have to rely a lot on faith and trust in order for me not to go insane!

"And this bag was just, dancing with me, like a little kid beggin' to play with it. I realized that there was this entire life behind things, and this incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know that there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Sometimes, there's so much beauty in the world. I feel like I can't take it, like my heart is just going to cave in."

It's so hard to not be afraid, ever. It seems lately I am living in a lot of fear and it causes me angst and distraction from the present moment.

There was another inspiration I had today, by Joe Prusaitis, the owner of Tejas trails. He is quite wise. A part of a trail was closed off at River Place and there has been a lot of heated discussion on the email list. Basically, everyone putting in their opinions and attitudes about why the trail was closed. The best thing that was said was by Joe. Below is the email:

"In todays social environment of mass media where we know the mistreatment of a fly in India minutes after it happens... there is no way the city didn't know about this trail. I know the people who had it built and they got the city's approval.

Also in todays political environment where people can use words with a positive spin or negative spin to tell the same story in two different ways to make themselves look like saints and the other guys to like like a loser I find it hard to believe much of what I read and take it for face value.

What I do know is that some people are putting up barricades while others are trying to get along... and I usually feel alienated by the barricades...

I will play by the rules.... but it doesn't mean I agree with them." Joe Prusaitas.

The best part about the above quote was how we all can put a negative or positive spin on something to make ourselves look good and others look bad. Also, the part about the barricades and in a way with our differing opinions and attitudes we put up barricades that separate us from each other instead of just trying to get along.

It's been an interesting debate to read and a great way to get to know people and their opinions! Of course, I am just on the side-lines playing it safe...Although, I feel if I put in my opinion it's just another form of separation. But, ,maybe not...

Today has been a good day so far. I managed to get a run in around Town Lake in this gorgeous, windy, sunny weather. That feels so much like Fall, but it's Spring.

A good night's rest always helps too.

Hopefully, I can make it to class tonight, that's always good for me.
